1939 Lincoln Zephyr 3-Window
A Infrequent Gem of a Pre-War Lincoln V12
Sh-h-h-h-h-h! Quiet now. Keep this under your hat. You better hurry down to Tampa, Florida and buy this classic Lincoln before Jay Leno finds out about it! When a one thousand nine hundred thirty nine Lincoln Zephyr 3-Window Coupe with its elegant flowing lines was listed for sale this week we had no idea how infrequent it was. We guess that almost all of the stock original Lincoln Zephyr 3-Windows have been turned into street rods. This is one of only thirty such 3-Window Coupes left and it remains original after spending twenty two years in the Lincoln Museum.
In its brief lifetime the Lincoln Zephyr provided a second-level luxury lineup for Ford that packed the gap inbetween the special Lincoln K cars and the Ford Deluxe V8 models. Zephyrs were unique in their day because all the other cars on the road had the high B pile look while the Lincoln Zephyr wowed auto enthusiasts with the Art Deco era slick slanting rear roofline design. It was the brainchild of Edsel Ford who sought to breathe life into the staid Lincoln lineup. The Zephyr was seen to be utterly modern for its day with a low raked windscreen, integrated fenders with total integrated skirts to hide the wheel well, and an aerodynamic design. While Chrysler’s Airflow never seemed to catch on with the buying public, automobile enthusiasts liked the Zephyr’s flowing lines right from the gitgo. Yet only eight hundred of the 3-Window Coupes were ever produced.
This infrequent one thousand nine hundred thirty nine Lincoln Zephyr is being suggested for sale at Gateway Classic Cars’ fresh store in Tampa, Florida. They tell us that the V12 engine “runs like a sewing machine.” After its stint in the Lincoln Museum it was purchased by a private collector and restored. They tell us it has had a comprehensive restoration to original condition. “Anything that you can see, touch or hear has been refurbished, restored or substituted.” they say. The car is a utter numbers matching car that drives excellent. The steering and brakes are nice and taut, and they say you can depend on it for a nice effortless cruise or on a long road tour. You can see dozens of photos on the ad page. Click here to explore the photos. Look for the cloth seat interior, and broad white wall tires.

CLASSIC CAR NEWS THIS WEEK .
. With so many Baby Boomers selling their classic car collections, Hagerty Insurance published an article in their weekly report to attempt to silent the market down a little. They say prices are only down about four percent from last year. That is not a number which should instill funk in the market. The controversy embarked when Rob Sass wrote an article for Car And Driver magazine focusing on how the Baby Boomer generation created today’s collector car market, and may be the culprits in crashing it. Click here to read the report. Hagerty, however, says the reports of the market’s demise are greatly overstated. Here is the link to the Hagerty article this week. Their numbers are based on their database of insurance values on collector cars. If you go after our Cars On Line Market Trends Report you know that the market has been plane ever since two thousand ten . up five percent one year, but down five percent the next. We do know one thing for sure. There is a lot more gray hair at collector car auctions these days.

Ford promises the EcoBlue engine will be the very first of a fresh series of engines, the very first to use modular camshafts and an offset crankshaft to extend fuel economy by thirteen percent. The Ford Transit will be the very first model to use the fresh EcoBlue diesel motor. They say it will be less noisy than the current Ford Two.Two Liter and add twenty percent more torque at one thousand two hundred fifty rpm. The treatment of harass gases will switch permitting it to meet Euro standards on emissions. A fresh compact turbocharger will produce more air at lower rpms, says Ford. The turbine wheel is made of a fresh lightweight aluminum. Its porting design supplies more precise airflow to the cylinders. With so many European auto manufacturers failing to meet current emission standards, Ford`s timing on the announcement might be considered a bit «boostful.»

TWO one thousand nine hundred seventy CHEVELLE SS 454/450 CONVERTIBLES .
When is an undocumented one thousand nine hundred seventy Chevelle LS6 Convertible worth more than a clone? This is not a riddle . it is a temptation. A private seller from North Dighton, Massachusetts has listed his one thousand nine hundred seventy Chevelle SS Convertible which has been restored using a five hundred twelve casting block with one thousand nine hundred seventy dates, four bolt main with seventy four aluminum goes, correct LS6 intake and distributor, seven hundred eighty Holley dual pumper, correct six hundred twenty one bell housing, eleven inch flywheel and an original LS6 tach. He is very careful not to say that it is an LS6. Yet in his ad copy he uses the tantalizing words, “Meticulous restoration of a non-documented four hundred fifty four LS6 convertible.” Considering that there were only sixteen or seventeen of these Monster 454/450 horsepower Chevelle SS convertibles ever produced, you have to ask yourself, “What would it be like to own one?”
Oddly, this same week, RK Motors Charlotte also listed a one thousand nine hundred seventy Chevelle SS Convertible which they indicate is an “undocumented LS6.” We found the synchronicity inbetween these two ads to be stunning. Fine minds work alike, you might say. What a beauty this is. The Tuxedo black Chevelle has all of the right trim to look the part of an SS454 LS6. However RK Motors Charlotte tells us, “as a well done tribute, this coupe`s era-correct big block wears a correct three million nine hundred sixty three thousand five hundred twelve casting number, looks good enough to loser all but the most enlightened classic car fans . ” Take a look at the ample photos in the ad. The engine compartment looks to be correct and the slobbering pic of one of the most powerful engines of the muscle car era. A rugged Muncie Rockcrusher M22 4-speed with the correct six hundred sixty one case spins to a 12-bolt, Posi-traction rearend tooled with the correct Trio.31 posi-gears. It is all supported by the venerable F41 dual A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension with strenuous duty sway bars. Life is too brief to miss an chance like this to drive a legendary muscle car reproduction.
