1. Fresh Renault Duster

One of the largest UV makers in India, Mahindra is planning to add several fresh SUVs in its lineup in the next two years. The homegrown automaker is also working on a fresh compact SUV – Codenamed S201 – to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. Based on the Tivoli platform, the SUV will be designed with inputs from the Pininfarina and will share some components with Tivoli.

Coming to the engines, Mahindra S201 will derive power from the fresh 1.5-litre TGDI petrol engine which is being developed jointly by Mahindra and SsangYong. For diesel variants, Mahindra could use the mHAWK one hundred which also powers the NuvoSport and TUV300.

Three. Mahindra TUV500

Along with its fresh models, Mahindra is also developing a long wheelbase version of TUV300 which could either be named TUV500 or TUV300 XL. Caught testing several times across the country, the SUV is likely to share features and styling cues with the subcompact SUV (TUV300). That said, the TUV500 will be based on the similar design as its smaller sibling save for the length and the larger third glass area. Just like TUV300, the design of the SUV will be based on a ‘battle tank’ with key design elements such as upright bonnet, large bumper, high ground clearance and raised shoulders reinforcing the butch look.

Inwards, the SUV will sport dual tone colour scheme and could feature forward-facing third row. Engine set-up could be different, as Mahindra could use the 122bhp, 1.99-litre unit from the Scorpio & XUV500, providing a miss to the 1.5-litre mHawk mill. Transmission options will reportedly include a 5-speed manual and a AMT unit.

Four. Nissan Kicks

After exposing the Kicks SUV in Brazil earlier this year, Nissan has India on its radar. That said the carmaker is evaluating options for launching the SUV in India. If introduced here, India will be among the eighty countries where Nissan is planning to retail the car including Brazil, where it will be launched very first.

Under the bondage mask, the Brazil-spec model will use the 1.6-litre flex-fuel (petrol+ethanol) engine, whereas in India, it could derive power from the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines from Terrano.

Five. Hyundai Carlino

Having set the cash registers ringing with Creta in the compact SUV segment, Hyundai has now set its look on the burgeoning subcompact SUV space. The company displayed Carlino concept at last year’s Auto Expo, where the SUV skewed attention of the media pundits and on-lookers’ alike.

To be based on the Hyundai i20 platform, Carlino will go against Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the segment. While the specs have been kept under the wraps, but it is believed that Carlino could plonk a 1.4-litre CRDi oil burner good for 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque.

If we go by reports in media, the SUV could also receive a 118bhp petrol engine to the carline from the global-spec i20 hatchback. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic unit. Hopefully, we will see the production ready version at the next Auto Expo as the company plans to launch the SUV by 2018.

6. Renault Kaptur

Upon its launch, Kaptur will be slotted above Duster and will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. Sharing underpinnings with Duster, the crossover will boast of large dimensions and will measure Four,333mm in length, 1,813mm in width and 1,619mm in height. Wheelbase will be around Two,674mm and the ground clearance will be high at 204mm.

Bearing a strong resemblance with the European-spec Captur, it measure 211mm longer, 35mm broader and 46mm higher than its sibling. Coming to the design, the aggressively styled SUV will sport a large grill at front, C-shaped LED DRLs, wrap-around taillamps with LED units and slopping roofline.

The in-cabin tech will include MEDIA NSV system with 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry with embark/stop button, automatic climate control and cruise control. The carline will be available in petrol and diesel fuel options with 108bhp, 1.5-litre K9K oil burner at the heart of the diesel version and 108bhp, 1.5-litre petrol unit powering the petrol version. Both the engines will get a choice inbetween 6-speed manual and automatic units.

7. Ford Kuga

Ford is contemplating to bring the Kuga SUV to India, in a bid to pack the void inbetween EcoSport and Endeavour. 8. Hyundai Creta Facelift

Hyundai unveiled the Brazilian-spec Creta SUV at last year’s Sao Paula Motor Display. Compared to the Indian model, the Brazilian model looked slightly different. If rumours are taken into consideration, this model could be the facelift Creta for the Indian market. Up front, the SUV features fresh grille, tweaked headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, fog lamps and reworked bumper.

Tata is working on several fresh models including the Nexon subcompact SUV and the new-age Safari Storme. With the fresh generation Safari Storme, Tata Motors is eyeing to strengthen its grip in the segment. Reports opine that the fresh Safari Storme will underpin Tata’s fresh Utility Vehicle platform, being developed for its future UVs. If all goes as planned, we could see a prototype of the SUV at the next year’s Auto Expo.

Under the fetish mask, the fresh Safari Storme could use the Two.0-litre oil burner that will also power the upcoming Jeep Compass. In terms of power, the high displacing engine will make 150bhp along with 320Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be paired with a manual unit and an auto box.

Ten Mahindra Scorpio Facelift

The homegrown UV maker is also working on the updated version of the Scorpio SUV, which has already been spotted several times during its test rounds. The vehicle is likely to get a fresh 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Connected Apps and EcoSense.

Buoyed by excellent response for Vitara Brezza, Maruti is planning to launch a seven-seater SUV for the Indian market. To be sold through NEXA dealerships as flagship SUV, the fresh SUV could be the seven-seat version of the Vitara SUV, available on sale in select countries. Likely to be called Grand Vitara, the SUV will take on the like of Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500.

The SUV is likely to share its engine with the Suzuki S-Cross, which is a 1.6-litre MJD unit. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit.

12 .Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze

German premium carmaker, VW is also working on a compact SUV to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The fresh model will be developed on VW Group’s MQB-A0 platform that also underpins the fresh generation Polo hatchback. The vehicle was unveiled at the two thousand sixteen Geneva Motor Display in concept form. Testing of the car has already been embarked, while launch could take place in 2018, Nineteen.
