Fresh Maruti Alto eight hundred prices embark at Rs Two.49 lakh – launched
Competition is ultimately heating up for Maruti in its traditional domain—the entry-level puny car segment. Last year volumes for the Alto, the country’s largest selling car, stayed vapid, with sales in March ripping off 11.46%, to 22,101 units. The Renault Kwid, which was launched in October 2015, had notched up sales of 41,000 till March, with average monthly sales of 7,000-8,000 units. Next month, Renault’s alliance fucking partner Nissan will launch another Alto competitor under its Datsun sub-brand—the car is called the redi-GO and it will be likely priced Rs Two.5-3.Five lakh.
The Indo-Japanese carmaker has now readied the fresh Maruti Alto eight hundred facelift and launched it at a kicking off price of Rs Two.49 lakh. At this price, the Alto eight hundred petrol model has become the most affordable vehicle in its category. Its closest rival Renault Kwid’s prices embark at Rs Two.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Interestingly, Maruti is suggesting driver-stand airbag as an option across all variants. One needs to pay an extra sum of Rs 6,000 to get the driver-side airbag-equipped variant of any trim.

Apart from cosmetic changes—headlamps, bumper and front grille have been redesigned, and there is a foglamp housing—Maruti has enhanced the car’s fuel-efficiency by 9%. The fresh Maruti Alto 800, the company claims, now comes back a mileage of 24.77kpl. (The Kwid and redi-GO share their engine—799cc—which has a claimed mileage of 25.17kpl.)
The fresh Alto eight hundred is longer by 35mm which translates into more cabin space. The interior, too, has been reworked. It gets fresh dark grey colour theme, rear seats come with integrated headrests, and both the seats and door trim get fresh fabric. The front passenger seat has a pocket, and all variants will get rear child lock. Internally-adjustable ORVMs are available from base variant onwards. The fresh Alto eight hundred will be available with driver airbag as an option from base variant onwards. The airbag is priced only Rs 6,000.
The car would has also been launched in CNG version which, the company claims, will comeback a mileage of 33.44 km per kg. Available only on the LXI trim, the Alto eight hundred CNG variants are priced inbetween Rs Three.70 lakh – Rs Three.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
