Two dead, five injured in alcohol-involved crash

Fine SCOTT TOWNSHIP — A 26-year-old masculine of Superior, Wis., and a 7-year-old dame of Hibbing died in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway one hundred sixty nine and County Road twenty five in Excellent Scott Township just before midnight Saturday.

Maegen R. Hunt, 39, of Hibbing, was driving a two thousand fifteen Hyundai Elantra westbound on Highway one hundred sixty nine while Jason M. Gates, 26, of Superior, Wis., was driving a two thousand thirteen Dodge Ram southbound on County Road twenty five when the vehicles collided at the intersection, according to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP).

Gates died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt and an airbag deployed.

His passenger, Joshua W. Johnson, 24, also of Superior, sustained non-life menacing injuries and was transported to Fairview Range Medical Center (FRMC) in Hibbing. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Alcohol was detected on Gates and Johnson, according to the MSP report.

Hunt sustained non-life menacing injuries and was transported to FRMC. She was wearing a seatbelt and an airbag deployed.

Hunt was carrying four passengers. All were wearing seatbelts at the time of crash.

Snowden E. Bothwell, 7, of Hibbing, died at the scene.

Avery A. Bothwell, 15, of Hibbing, was transported to Essentia in Duluth for life-threatening injuries.

Kaelen M. Dolinsek, Nineteen, and Samuel H. Bothwell, Four, both of Hibbing, each sustained non-life menacing injuries and were transported to FRMC.

No alcohol was detected on Hunt, according to the report. Road conditions were dry at the time.

Assisting agencies include Chisholm Police Department, Hibbing Police Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

A GoFundMe site has been set up to assist with Snowden’s funeral expenses. According to the site, Snowden was “a upbeat very first grader at Parkview Elementary in Virginia and a member of the Virginia Figure Skating Club.” Around Four:30 p.m. Monday, the site had raised more than $Two,700 of the $Ten,000 purpose.

Fatal crashes surpass 100

The number of traffic fatalities in the state of Minnesota surpassed the one hundred mark this week, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (DPS-OTS).

• twenty three alcohol-related deaths (22.Three percent).

• Five distracted-related deaths (Four.9 percent).

• thirty four speed-related deaths (33 percent).

• twenty five unbelted motorist deaths (29.8 percent).
