Superb Wall M4 Compact SUV
China’s Superb Wall Motors (GWM), through its licensed manufacturer in Malaysia, Go Automobile Manufacturing (GO Auto), recently launched the M4 Compact SUV which cracks price barriers with a price range of RM45,000 – RM59,000.
The model is produced at a joint-venture plant in Gurun, Kedah, which has an investment of RM2 billion and which will produce up to 50,000 units annually.
The plant output will eventually rise to 100,000 units a year, of which 60% will be exported mainly to other ASEAN countries with AFTA privileges that permit it to be exempted from import duty.
The smartly-designed M4, with a cabin surrounded by generous amounts of glazing, is three thousand nine hundred sixty one mm long, which makes it just slightly shorter than the 4-metre long Toyota Rush. But it is fairly broad at one thousand seven hundred twenty eight mm (the Rush is one thousand six hundred ninety five mm) and the roofline is one thousand six hundred seventeen mm above the road. The wheelbase of two thousand three hundred eighty three mm provides good space inwards for front and rear passengers while a one hundred eighty five mm ground clearance keeps its underside high up for crossing minor floods and rough ground.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output of one hundred three bhp/138 Nm. Intelligent variable valve timing plus a 6-speed automatic transmission (5-speed manual also available) enables the M4 to go up to almost seventeen kms/litre, it is claimed. As with many other fresh SUV models in the market, the M4 has front-wheel drive only.
For a vehicle to be registered for sale in Malaysia, it has to meet the stringent regulations so customers can be assured of high safety standards. All versions of the M4 come with dual front airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels and Six pack (Bosch 8.1 system) with EBD and Brake Assist
“Globally, the M4 Compact SUV has sold over 200,000 units since being introduced in 2013. It is GWM’s flagship model and we are certain that it will do identically well in Malaysia. The M4 Compact SUV is set to contest head on with other SUVs and we are certain that Malaysians will find the price point attractive. It is both affordable, energy efficient and attractive in all aspects. In fact, it will redefine the B category of cars in terms of quality and price,” said Ahmad Azam Sulaiman, CEO of GO Auto.
The M4 Compact SUV will be available in showrooms embarking 16th July, two thousand fourteen and to ensure that customers receive decent after-sales support, the company is enhancing its number of service centres by 40%. A 3-year/100,000 km factory warranty is provided.
In conjunction with the launch of the M4 Compact SUV, Excellent Wall is running the ‘Compact SUV M4 Challenge’ which has a fresh M4 as the prize. The challenge is open to all Malaysians from the age of eighteen years old. To participate, entrants must also donate a minimum of RM100 to the ‘Majlis Kanser Nasional’. Registration for the challenge completes on July 31, 2014.
