A man in his 20’s suffered a number of injuries when a car struck him at a Seattle intersection. According to a news report in The Seattle Times, the pedestrian accident occurred at East Harrison Street and Broadway East on Capitol Hill. Officials say he hit the windshield of the car after he was struck. He sustained a cracked gam and other injuries. It is not clear how the accident occurred or what condition the man was in when he was transported to the hospital.

When a roadway or intersection is particularly dangerous, it is the responsibility of the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway to assess whether or not switches need to be made to prevent future collisions. According to a King five News report, the Seattle Department of Transportation is presently considering making switches to Northeast 75th Street in Wedgewood. Officials began contemplating switches after two people were killed in a possible DUI accident last month.
Many neighbors have voiced concerns to the city about their safety on the busy roadway. Transportation officials are now listening to those concerns and reviewing traffic data to see if anything improvements can be made at that intersection. The aim, officials say, is to increase safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Several Seattle roadways including Aurora Avenue, Lake City Way and Rainier Avenue are getting fresh pedestrian lights, signs and extra police enforcement as well. Read the rest »

Bicyclist and Motorcyclist Injured in Seattle Collision

A bicyclist in her 30s and a motorcyclist in his 20s have been hospitalized after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Seattle. According to a report by The Seattle Times, the car accident occurred at Alaskan Way and Broad Street near the Seattle waterfront. Officials say the collision involved a taxicab, a parked car, a bicyclist, and a motorcyclist. Both the injured bicyclist and motorcyclist were taken to a nearby medical center. It is unclear what caused the crash or if anyone involved will be cited for the collision.

It is not clear if the deputy will be charged for the crash.

Failure to Yield Accident Injures McCleary, Washington Woman

A woman from McCleary, Washington who was traveling along Highway twelve near Keys Road recently suffered injuries when another driver collided with hers, according to a latest news report from KXRO. Investigators say the accident resulted from the 2nd driver’s failure to yield.
According to the report, the collision occurred at the intersection of Keys Road and Highway 12. The woman, a 59-year-old McCleary resident, was driving on Highway twelve as the 2nd vehicle, driven by a 68-year-old man from Elma, approached northbound on Keys Road. Rather than stopping at the intersection to let the woman’s vehicle pass, the other driver pulled onto Highway 12, colliding with the woman’s car. Read the rest »

Traffic lights and signs are put up to control the flow of traffic and warn drivers of the need to stop or slow down to avoid a crash. When a driver runs a crimson light or stop sign, however, serious injuries or motor vehicle accident deaths can result.
According to the Federal Highway Association (FHWA), about Two.Trio million intersection crashes occur in the United States each year, resulting in over 7,700 deaths. About ten percent of these deaths, or seven hundred sixty eight of them in 2008, occur when a driver intentionally or negligently runs a crimson light. Deaths nationwide in red-light-running accidents have decreased since 2008, but for most of the past decade have held constant at rates inbetween nine hundred and 1,000 deaths per year. Dangerous San de Fuca Intersection to See Improvements Soon

The intersection of Arnold Road and Interstate twenty near San de Fuca will soon be under construction to fix the dangerous road conditions that presently exist, according to an article in The Whidbey News-Times. In June, the Washington State Department of Transportation awarded a contract to Interwest Construction to address the dangerous conditions at the intersection.
The intersection is well-known as a site of car accidents in the area. Inbetween two thousand five and 2009, ninety collisions occurred at the intersection, many of them fatal. A acute curve and non-level ground near the intersection make it difficult for drivers to see cross traffic as they treatment the intersection, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
